Management Team

The management team consists of experts with extensive industry experience in the development and deployment of optical transmission technology and their networking applications.

Hamid ArabzadehHamid Arabzadeh, Chairman of the Board, President & Chief Executive Officer

Formerly, Mr. Arabzadeh was the General Manager and Vice President of Next Generation Metro Optical Networks at Nortel Networks. In this role, he had global responsibility for Nortel’s Metro Optical Profit & Loss, Portfolio & Technology Strategy, Research & Development, Product Line Management and Product Marketing.
Mr. Arabzadeh joined Nortel Networks in 1995 and led the Product Marketing and Business Development of Optical Networks in the CALA Market. He spent the next 4 years working with the incumbent operators throughout the peak of deregulation in Mexico and Brazil to modernize the Long Haul and Metropolitan Optical Networks. He then moved to England to lead the Product Line Management team for the International Optical Networks division spanning CALA, EMEA and Asia. During his tenure, Nortel secured 90% market share in Pan European optical networks with the introduction of 10 Gb/s platform with over $1B revenue and became the number one supplier of Metro DWDM products in the global market.

Mr. Arabzadeh's professional career in Telecommunication and Information Technology began as the founder and President of UNICAD Information Systems in 1988 in Canada. UNICAD specialized in CAD/CAM custom software development, system integration, training, and customer care service for Construction, Manufacturing, Telecommunication, and Apparel sector.

Mr. Arabzadeh holds an M.B.A. from the University of McGill and a Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada. back to top

Georg RöllGeorg Röll, VP of Operations (Co-Founder)

Mr. Röll is a co-founder of CoreOptics and responsible for the development of CoreOptics’ technical vision and strategy in the context of newly emerging technologies and markets. The availability of the relevant base technology, the establishment of respective partnerships, the technology roadmap as well as the Intellectual Property strategy and patents are amongst Mr. Röll’s key mandates. As the VP of Operations he is responsible for all aspects of high volume production of CoreOptics product portfolio.
Before co-founding CoreOptics Mr. Röll was director of lightwave technology development within the Optical Networking Group of Lucent Technologies at Holmdel, NJ USA. Prior to this, he was director for hardware development for high-speed and high-capacity lightwave systems at Lucent in Germany. He was instrumental in establishing and leading global design teams for high-speed and high-capacity transmission systems in Lucent Technologies. Before that, he was head of the SDH product development of Philips Kommunikations Industrie. He received the Bell Labs Fellowship for his outstanding contribution to high-speed optical transmission systems.

Mr. Röll earned an Ingenieur graduate degree in telecommunications from the Ohm Polytechnikum in Nuremberg, Germany. back to top

Saeid AramidehSaeid Aramideh, Senior VP of Global Sales, Marketing and Business Development 

Mr. Aramideh has the overall responsibility for the market development and product introduction strategies for CoreOptics suite of transponder products globally. Mr. Aramideh comes to CoreOptics with over 18 years of experience in product line management, sales/marketing and development of optical components, Sonet/DWDM transmission and optical switching products.

Prior to joining CoreOptics, Mr. Aramideh was the Vice President of Product Management at iolon Inc, responsible for the company's outbound marketing efforts to introduce industry's first widely tunable laser products for the optical networking applications. Previously, Mr. Aramideh was a member of the leadership team at Corvis responsible for introduction of the company's all-optical networking products. Mr. Aramideh played a key role in developing Corvis' product and marketing strategies. Mr. Aramideh also spent 10 years with Nortel Networks where he held a variety of development and marketing management positions in the Nortel Networks Fiber Optics Transmission Group. In his last position with Nortel, Mr. Aramideh played a pivotal role in laying Nortel's marketing strategy for the emerging data centric carriers and launched a national campaign to introduce Nortel's services marketing program.

Mr. Aramideh holds both a masters degree in electrical engineering and an executive MBA from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. back to top

Hans SchiesslHans Schiessl, VP of Research and Development

Mr. Schiessl is responsible for engineering & operations. Prior to his current role in the company he was responsible for the 40 Gb/s Advanced Transponder development program including high-speed analogue and mixed signal integrated circuit designs in advanced SiGe, GaAs and InP Processes.
Before joining CoreOptics Mr. Schiessl was a Project Manager for sensor development at Gieseke & Devrient in Munich leading a Banknote Acceptor development program with a team of 20 high skilled engineers. He started his career at Philips Kommunikations Industrie in Nuremberg, where he worked on high-speed ASIC design for high-speed optical transceivers and led the development of the high speed optical Interfaces for the Philips SDH- product family.

Mr. Schiessl holds a Diplom-Ingenieur (M.S.) degree in electrical engineering from the University of Erlangen, specializing on communications technology and high frequency engineering. back to top

Achim HerzbergerAchim Herzberger, VP of Product Line Management (Co-Founder)

Mr. Herzberger is a co-founder of CoreOptics and is leading the CoreOptics product & business line management. He is responsible for coordinating all activities related to the success of the product line, including engineering, manufacturing and filed trial support. He has outstanding experience in CMOS ASIC design in leading edge technology for transmission systems.

Prior to co-founding CoreOptics Mr. Herzberger was the head of the ASIC department responsible for the CMOS ASIC development for DWDM, multiplexer and cross-connect products at Lucent Technologies. He led the design of the advanced forward error correction algorithms for long distance DWDM systems for 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s. Before this, he successfully led highly complex ASIC design projects for SONET, SDH, PDH und ATM systems with globa­l teams. Prior to this, he worked for Philips Kommunikations Industrie. He played a key role in defining the SDH product­ family and was responsible for the ASIC development of SDH interfaces.
Mr. Herzberger earned a Diplom-Ingenieur (M.S.) degree in electrical engineering from the RWTH Aachen with a specialization in telecommunication. back to top

Dr. Christoph Schulien, Chief Technology Officer (Co-Founder)

Dr. Schulien is a co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of CoreOptics and is responsible for next generation product architectures. Prior to his current role in the company he held various leadership positions in product engineering, marketing and business development.

Before co-founding CoreOptics Dr. Schulien held the position of director for optics & high-speed circuit development within the Optical Networking Group of Lucent Technologies in Nuremberg. He led the development of the system hardware and high speed technology related to the next generation TDM and terabit DWDM systems with a per channel capacity of up to 40 Gb/s. Further, he was responsible for securing key technologies through strategic alliances with renown companies in the optical networking sector. Prior to that, he led the development of high-speed optical transmitter and receiver modules for various applications of the WaveStar product line at Lucent in Holmdel, NJ USA. His particular focus was on the development of DWDM interfaces and involved a team of technical experts in Holmdel, in Nuremberg and in North Andover, MA. He started his career at Philips Kommunikations Industrie in 1992 in various management and expert positions in the area of high-speed integrated circuit design and acquired vast experience in analog and mixed signal design at speeds up to 10 Gb/s.

Dr. Schulien holds a Diplom-Ing. (M.S.) and a Dr. Ing. (PhD) degree (with summa cum laude) in electrical engineering from the University of Saarbrücken, Germany. back to top

Claus DorschkyClaus Dorschky, Lead Product Architect (Co-Founder)

Mr. Dorschky is a co-founder of CoreOptics and is responsible for the detailed architecture of all CoreOptics products along with the definition and the provision of all relevant technologies for their implementation. He is an expert in the area of high-speed mixed signal circuit design for ultra high speed digital lightwave communication systems and has a vast experience in the design and application of electronic and opto-electronic components.

Prior to co-founding CoreOptics Mr. Dorschky was responsible for the 40 Gb/s high speed IC design program at Lucent Technologies. He successfully led design projects in a variety of technologies including the most advanced SiGe and InP HBT technologies. Before this he was the lead engineer in the development of 10 Gb/s receiver modules for DWDM systems.

Mr. Dorschky holds a Diplom-Ingenieur (M.S.) degree in electrical engineering from the University of Erlangen with a specialization in the areas of digital signal processing and RF design. back to top
